A succession crisis is threatening the Christ Apostolic Church of God Mission, CACGM Benin City as the tenure of the General Superintendent, GS, Godpower Ogbomwan draws to an end next month.
The crisis is related to the plans by one of the children of the late founder of the Church, to be made the next General Superintendent though their father did not include any of them on the board of trustees from genesis.
Matters have also been compounded by the church authorities plot to also use a strange and illegal 3rd revised Constitution to pick the next General Superintendent of the mission.
According to sources, the 3rd revised Constitution is unknown to the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, Abuja which since 1979 has a copy of the original Constitution which the late founder Samuel Ogbomwan registered the church with.
The original Constitution it was learnt outlines the modus operandi for the appointment, powers, duties, tenure of office and replacement of trustees, from among whom the GS must emerge.
This original CACGM Constitution also has has 5 members of the Board of trustees including the late founder, the current General Superintendent, Godpower Ogbomwan and two others Anthony Osemwenkhae and Thomas Obakpolor.
The fifth member, Mr Matthew Ogbomwan, who is the Assistant General Superintendent of the Church and Head of the Mission in the USA is believed to be eminently qualified to assume duties as the new GS though the unfolding crisis may change that plan.
