The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Friday February 10 as the date for the conduct of a fresh governorship primary election in Taraba State. This is in compliance of the Supreme Court judgement of February 1, which voided the nomination of Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha as the governorship candidate in Taraba state. The Supreme Court had upheld the verdict of the Federal High Court Jalingo which nullified the entire primary election that threw up Bwacha as the flag bearer for the 2023 polls.
In a letter of notice signed by the National Organizing Secretary of the party, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu and addressed to the Taraba state APC Chairman, Barr. Ibrahim El-Sudi, the party adopted the indirect mode (delegate) for the primary election. According to the letter, the APC was in receipt of the judgement of the Supreme Court in the matters of Chief David Sabo Kente vs APC and 20 others as well as that of Chief Sabo Kente vs Senator Emmanuel Bwacha and 20 others which “affirmed the nullification of the result of the gubernatorial primary election in Taraba and ordered the conduct of a fresh primary election.”
“In compliance thereof and in tandem with the provision of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), we shall be adopting the indirect mode for the conduct of the fresh primary election. The venue will be Jolly Nyame stadium Jalingo Taraba State and the scheduled date is Friday 10th February, 2023,” the letter reads. The Taraba state chapter of APC has acknowledged the letter and asked its members to get ready for the primary election. In the statement made available to journalists, the spokesman of the party, Aaron Artimas, said: “all concerned are advised to prepare themselves for the exercise”.
