The three senatorial candidates of the Peoples Democratic Partly (PDP) in Anambra State did not attend the inauguration of the party’s campaign team in the state on Tuesday.
They are: Chief Chris Uba (Anambra South), Senator Stella Oduah (Anambra North) and Senator Uche Ekwunife (Anambra Central).
The Nation gathered that the trio expressed anger over the arrangement in the party, despite winning the tickets for the senatorial seats.
The party inaugurated the campaign council for its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, with Prof. Obiora Okonkwo as the Director General and Senator Ben Obi as the Chairman in Anambra State.
The event took place at Dr. Obiora Okonkwo House in Awka, the state capital, with many PDP chieftains in attendance.
They also organised a road show for the members to show strength in the state, as they marched on some of the roads in the capital city.
Addressing the party faithful, the PDP leaders, described Atiku as the most credible candidate to market in the Southeast for his political attachment to the area. Prof. Okonkwo said Atiku had done it before and was ready to do it again without fear.
He said: “For those of us who have come close to him, we have seen his love for the Igbo. He grew up politically knowing that the North has political alliance with the Southeast and he has continued to maintain that closeness with the Igbo.
“He made an Igbo man his running mate in 2019 and he also made Chief Ndii Obi the Director General of his campaign, showing his love for our people.
“He did everything he needed to do to have a running mate from the Southeast for the 2023 election, but because Ohaneze Ndigbo directed Igbo politicians not to accept the vice presidential slot, he still looked for an Igbo across the Niger and nominated Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who does not deny his Igbo identity.”
The chairman reminded Igbo politicians that sentiments and anger do not usually yield good political results, stressing that there was the need to be patient and wait for the right time.
He added: “Politics requires strategy and calculation, which must be capped with patience.
