A Nigerian lady identified as Aghogho Imene has raised an alarm after her landlord allegedly destroyed her properties worth millions of naira.
The lady who is the chief executive officer of Gracin Ceramics also accused the landlord, simply identified as Ajiboye, of assault her staff and ripping off her roof.
In a video posted on social media, the visibly devastated business owner painfully spoke about how she moved into the showroom in the Elugshi area of Lagos and suffered to grow her business. She further expressed regrets that all she worked for had gone down the drain, leaving her staff out of job.
In a statement, Imene said:
“Three (3) years ago I moved into my showroom in Elegushi (just opposite the Oba’s Palace). I renovated the property to the standard it is today. Since moving into my showroom; I have never defaulted in my rent including making payment during the lockdown period.
In spite of all the hassles we all went through last year, I made a total payment of ₦3m out of ₦3.8m ( please note that my last payment was on 11th Dec 2020 ) to Mr Muyiwa A.O. Ajiboye (My Landlord), leaving a balance of ₦800,000.
“So a quick brief on how the rent is being paid….
“I took 70% space at ₦2.5m for a period of February to March and a smaller space at ₦1.3m for a period of November to October. Summing the rent to ₦3.8m per annum.
“On the 4th of January 2021, my landlord informed me that he wanted to start construction at the back of the showroom (plot of land behind), and issued me notices in February 2021 to vacate the showroom in March 2021, he issued me another notice in February instructing me to vacate the premises in May 2021. ( this is after collecting rent from me in December 2020).
“I then informed him that moving an entire business in this economy within 3 months was impracticable and requested to be issued a proper 6 months notice to get an alternative location but this didn’t go well with him.
Mr. Ajiboye and his wife (Esther) resulted in constant harassment and assault of my staff and myself, coming into my showroom unannounced, embarrassing customers, and threatening to forcefully eject me from the property.
“I got my lawyers involved and indeed the Ilasan Police station made all frantic efforts to amicable resolve the issues to get him to give me reasonable time to move. My lawyers even proposed August, as my showroom is in no way disturbing the construction at the back.
“Regardless of these efforts, Mr Ajiboye proceeded to pour gravel in front of my showroom ensuring no customers and vehicles park or come into my showroom to do business. He also cut off the water & electricity.”
