We’ve Raided Two Militant Camps In Bakassi – CP

Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Aminu Alhassan, has disclosed that they have discovered and raided two militant camps in the Bakassi Local Government Area of the state.

He further disclosed that militant activities have resurged in the state’s coastal areas.

He was a guest of Let’s Talk Nigeria, a flagship discussion programme on Sparkling FM radio in Calabar on Wednesday morning.

The commissioner recalled with pain that they had attacked and killed some of his marine policemen sometime ago, but that staggering fatality was much on the militants’ side.

He said trouble started when the suspected militants attacked a petrol station in Bakassi.

He agreed that in neighbouring Akpabuyo LGA, piracy and militancy were rife but that they had been contained.

Alhassan said they are working closely with other security agencies and local traditional chieftains to achieve their feats but that there are too many exaggerations about criminalities in the state that the whistle-blowers do not verify.

On the recent rival cult clash, which left at least three suspected cultists dead in Obudu LGA, he said they have made some arrests, investigating it, and are still after the sponsors of the two rival groups.

“We have intervened in the matter. Our Anti–Cultism Squad Arron top of it even as we are on the trail of suspected sponsors,” he said.

According to him, cultism is the number one crime in the state, followed by kidnapping.
