The news of the death of Captain Hosa Okunbo has left the residents of Edo State in shock.
The Captained died on Sunday 8 August 2021 at the age of 63.
The business tycoon and billionaire had been sicked for a few years, according to the interview he granted in October 2020.
Who Is Captain Hosa Okunbo?
Captain Hosa Okunbo hailed from Benin City, Edo State, the Southern part of Nigeria.
He was born into the family of a clergyman, teacher and community leader, Robert Amos Okunbo.
He had his primary education at Government Primary School in old Bendel State, now known as Edo State.
Hosa went ahead in 1971 to attend Federal Government College in Warri, where he earned his West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
He was a Benin by tribe and fluent in the language as well as English.
At the age of 21, Hosa, popularly known as Captain Hosa, loved to fly, so he became a professional commercial pilot by studying at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Centre in Zaria, Kaduna State.
He proceeded to attend ACME school of Aeronautics, Fort Worth in Texas, in 1983, where he obtained an Airline Transport Pilot License.
When he graduated at aged 25, he became a professional commercial pilot and was made a captain with Intercontinental Airlines between 1983 and 1985.
In 1988, Captain Hosa retired from piloting at the age of 30 and dived into private business after logging over 7,000 hours of flight time.
Several Businesses of Captain Hosa
Captain Hosa started Hoslyn Venture Nigeria Ltd, a company involved with procurement in the Nigerian Petroleum Sector.
He founded and Chaired CMES-OMS Petroleum Development Company (CPDC) which signed $875.75m alternative deal for the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) in 2019.
He also founded and chaired the following companies.
The Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartment, Wells San0Carlos Agro Farms Limited, which unveiled a $750 million, 9000-hectare farm intended to create 9=85.000 jobs in 2016.
The business tycoon also founded Ocean Marine Security Limited, an offshore asset-protection company, rendering service to major oil companies in Nigeria, including NNPC.
He is a major shareholder in Westminster Security Solutions Nigeria Ltd, a Westminster Group PLC UK franchise.
He also owned Wells Group of Companies – Wells Dredging Ltd, Wells Property Development Company, ltd and Wells Entertainments ltd.
Okunbor financed the movie Black November through Wells Entertainment limited in 2012.
His name is associated with Ocean Marine Solutions Tankers Limited, which is believed to own Nigeria’s first marine Tankers; Hoslyn Habitat Limited design, construction and landscaping company; Gyro Air Limited, operators of charter flight operations.
He was known to be the director of the below companies:
Secure Anchorage Area Limited (SAA), Joined Marine Environment Guard Limited (JMEG), Digisteel Integrated Services Limited and Phil Nugent Nigeria Limited, Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing Limited (IEDM), which is a core investor in Ibadan and Yola Electricity Distribution Companies.
Okunbo is a member of the Board of Directors of NatCom Development and Investment Ltd., which is the holding company of Nigerian telecommunications giant NTEL
