Who Owes Edo PDP: Any Explanation For Wishing Governor Obaseki Well?

By Osehobo Ofure

I have been in this country for sometime and as a student of politics, I did not know that it is expected of Nigerian citizens, in whatever capacity they find themselves to formally ask for a legislation or approval before they can send congratulatory or goodwill messages to their Governor or President.

That there is infighting in the Edo PDP among its tax collector leaders because of appointments and “booty sharing”, is common knowledge. Common sense demands that a purpose driven party concern itself with how to solve this shameful development rather than getting involved in “idle talk”; but not Edo PDP.

The PDP has been in the opposition for so long in Edo state and have yet to realise it is no longer an opposition party in the state. I say this because judging by the latest antics and laughable reaction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the messages of congratulations by some APC leaders to Governor Obaseki, the party appear to have suddenly woken up from its slumber with its idle chatter and specious remarks.

My question is: How long will it take Edo PDP to realise that it is longer in opposition?

There is no substance in the party’s response to the Messages of Congratulation to Go ernor Obaseki worthy of recount here except to put on record the fact that the PDP was sent into a state of shock as a result.

This is Edo PDP that has failed to rally its members to support its own candidate to pick a cabinet, seven months down the road. This Edo PDP is really delusional.

While nobody owe the PDP any explanation over goodwill messages to Governor Obaseki, I think it is proper to state that as well meaning citizens of Edo state, it is proper to always speak truth to power while wishing its operators well, with a primary objective of making the state and its people better governed.
