Billy Egbe, a former Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy Senate President who also represents Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has given reason why he left his former boss after six years of serving him.
While many considered the decision has a betrayal of his boss, Egbe, who joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC) and recently appointed as Okowa’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, thinks otherwise.
Egbe had held back the reasons for his movement to Governor Okowa and the PDP, but on Thursday was forced to spill out the reasons while responding to an ongoing Facebook trading of words with Publisher of Secret Reporters, Fejiro Oliver.
Fejiro had called Egbe a betrayer and wondered what he was doing in the same government that he steadily criticized.
Egbe in his post revealed that his tie with Agege weakened after a letter was sent to him asking him to vacate the Abuja office and return to Ughelli.
His words: “Without intent to brag, I was one of the most committed supporters of the DSP from 2016 when I joined the APC in Delta State till May 2022 when I left – a period of six years.
“During this period, I destroyed so many relationships and lost so many friends in protection of the interest of my former Principal. I have paid my dues. You cannot display 5% of such loyalty to anyone.
“I rejected my self-interest to protect the self-interest of another. You even stated categorically at a point in time that you were proud of my courage to follow the narrow lane. What suddenly happened to you? Why allow envy and jealousy to eat you up? Are you such a devil to be so hateful and bitter about the growth of a supposed friend?
“Despite being sent out of an Office I prayed and laboured so hard to help build, I still remained loyal to my former Boss for two years with a meager salary of 163k when those who didn’t even know how he won his election, those who didn’t even know him until he became DSP were placed on higher salaries and grade levels while many of us who stood through thick and thin to build the house you now get millions from were sent into oblivion and relegated to Ughelli Politics. No one knew that after I was sent away from the Abuja Office and asked to return to Ughelli after all my contributions, I fell into depression. For months, I was disillusioned and felt worthless. You have no idea how it feels to be rejected and considered inferior and unfit to be a part of the Abuja clique.”
According to the said Facebook post, he (Egbe) was the one betrayed and not the other way round.
