Some youths from Ofoni community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have developed a generator that operates without fuel.
The battery-powered generator, which was developed by Mr Peter Pleasure, Sapele Wisdom and Ewatiena Ezekiel, is to alleviate the cost and hazard of running generators on fuel in the environment, and also explore their vocational skills.
Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who inspected a battery-powered generator at his home community, Ofoni, expressed delight and excitement at the scientific innovation of the youths.
He commended their creativity and promised to give them the necessary support. He consequently directed that monthly stipend be paid to them from his office to encourage, motivate and enable them to concentrate on the project.
“It is a commendable effort. I will bring it to the governor’s attention and the government will give it the necessary push to tidy up the grey areas and then start commercial production.
“What they have done so far shows that with the battery, you can start the generator and it generates power. But the problem is that the battery will run down over time as it is being consumed.
“So, I have charged them to come up with the alternator technology and they have assured me that they can do that. What is happening here in Ofoni is a clear demonstration that there are youths in Bayelsa who are ready to do the right things,” Senator Ewhrudjakpo also stated.
Mr Peter Pleasure, expressed gratitude to the deputy governor for the encouragement, adding that the project was borne out of their passion to become famous for producing a home-grown power generating plant.
