BREAKING: Appeal Court Reaffirms Maina’s Eight-year Sentence For N2.1bn Fraud

The conviction and eight-year term given to Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), for laundering over N2.1 billion, have been maintained by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

In a ruling released on Friday, a three-member judicial panel unanimously upheld the conviction and sentence of Maina rendered by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High judicial, Abija, on November 8, 2021.

In addition to upholding the several interlocutory rulings made during the trial at the Federal High Court, which Maina appealed against, Justice Justice Elfreda Williams-Daudu did so in the lead judgment.

Justice Williams-Daudu, who resolved the two issues, identified for determination, against Maina, held that he was not denied fair hearing by the trial court and that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

This is a developing story
