Jubilation filled the air in Oredo as Dr Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, a former permanent secretary in the ministry of Agriculture and rural development, visited the APC local government leaders.
Dr Umakhihe, a proud native of Edo, spoke about his strong connections to the region. He shared his background, stating that he was born, raised, and educated in Benin City. With an impressive career that included serving in various capacities, Dr Umakhihe was appointed as permanent secretary in the ministry of Agriculture and rural development in 2018 by President Muhammad Buhari. He highlighted his track record of empowering people and expressed his desire to secure the APC ticket.
Understanding the challenges faced by Oredo, Dr Umakhihe vowed to address them if given the opportunity. His plans included decongesting traffic and constructing flyovers where necessary. He also pledged to revive the water storm project initiated under Adams Oshiomole but later abandoned by Governor Obaseki. Furthermore, he promised to tackle the security challenges in Oredo and make agriculture more attractive to the people of Edo.
In response, the leaders in the local government, expressed their desire to see that Dr Umakhihe gets the APC ticket.
