The Federal Government has issued a statement in response to an incident that occurred on Tuesday at Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), in which Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke nearly escaped death.
Platinumpost reported that a private jet owned by billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, the governor’s elder brother and the father of famed Nigerian singer Davido, caught fire on Tuesday at the MMIA’s domestic wing.
On Sunday, the Aviation Minister, Mr Festus Keyamo, confirmed the event in a statement issued by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Musa Nuhu, saying the government was aware of the situation involving the Bombardier Global Express 605 plane.
The airplane was transporting the governor and his staff on a scheduled travel to Abuja when the event occurred, according to the minister.
“Once alerted, the Honourable Minister contacted the Director General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and was briefed accordingly. A mandatory report was submitted on September 6, 2023 in accordance with Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations(http://Nig.CARS).
“The operator submitted the report through the new web based National Aviation Safety Reporting System, SMS Pro, deployed by NCAA in collaboration with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) in compliance with the provisions of ICAO mandated State Safety Programme and the Civil Aviation Act 2022. A full blown investigation of the incident has since commenced”.
While expressing relief that the incident ended without any harm, the Minister assured that the outcome of NCAA’s investigation and recommendations would be implemented.
“The Honourable Minister has on several occasions stated that safety of the aviation industry is the number one objective of his administration”, the statement added.
