Fleeing Armed Robbers Shot Dead A Local Police Officer In Benin

An Inspector of Police with the Anti Cultism Unit of the Edo state police command, Mohammed Hameed has been shot dead by some fleeing armed robbery suspects in Benin city, Edo state.

In a gun battle with some fleeing criminals, in the night of Wednesday 6 January 2021 along Lagos street in Benin city, the policeman was first shot dead by the suspected armed robbers who were in an armed robbery spree.

In retaliation, the police felled one of the armed robbery suspects.

Standard Gazette learned that the policemen on patrol got a distress call that some suspected armed robbers snatched a car around the King’s Square in Benin city and headed towards Lagos street in the Edo state capital.

 

The police responded swiftly and pursued the hoodlums towards the said Lagos street in Benin city.

Upon sighting the police, the hoodlums opened fire into the patrol van and killed Inspector Mohammed Hameed who led the response team.

Other members of the police team then fought back Killing one of the armed robbers on the spot.

Police authority in Edo state said an extensive investigation has been instituted towards arresting other fleeing members of the gang who sustained severe injuries.

The late Inspector Mohammed Hameed has been buried according to Islamic rites.
