One Killed As Gangs Clash In Lagos Island

A young man identified as ‘Tiroo’ has been killed after rival groups clashed at Lagos Island.

It was gathered that violence broke out around Alli Street on Sunday night between Agarawu and Onola Boys.

In the course of the clash, hoodlums were said to have attacked residents and shop owners, dispossessing them of their valuables.

The attack on innocent people was said to have irked some youths, including Tiroo, who converged on Itafaji to resist the aggressors.

Unfortunately, Tiroo was hit by stray bullet from the attackers’ Dane Gun on the neck and allegedly died on the spot.

According to sources, the deceased was buried on Monday morning with youths vowing to take laws into their hands if actions were not taken to arrest the culprits.

“Youths from Onola, Itafaji and other affected areas have resolved to defend themselves in any way possible.

“We have even invited the service of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) to apprehend the notorious Agarawu boys and hand them over to the police for prosecution.

“The police are trying their best but these Agaruwa boys are too notorious and have fortified themselves against bullets. We cannot just sit down and fold our arms while they terrorise us. Our own is to complement police efforts,” said a resident.

Meanwhile, some community leaders, CDA Chairmen, Igbo traders and other stakeholders in the affected areas met with the representative of Police at the Pashi/Willoughby CDA Secretariat to find a lasting solution to the unrest.

Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Chris Onyekachi, said parties have agreed to intensify efforts to contain the menace.

“We have met and resolved to give the police full backing to deal with the situation by apprehending and prosecuting the culprits.

“We are using this opportunity to appeal to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu to quickly intervene and quench the ongoing crisis between Onola and Agarawu boys in Lagos Island,” he said.
