South-West PDP Congress Updates: Election Materials Arrive, Accreditation Of Delegates Commences

Materials for the South-West Zonal Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party have arrived at the venue of the election.

The materials and the Congress committee members were led to the Women and Children Development Initiative Foundation (WOCDIF) Centre, Iwo Road, Osogbo, where the event is being held by many security operatives.

Addressing newsmen, Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Benson Abounu, who stood in for Governor Samuel Ortom, said 743 delegates would be voting at the congress.

Of the 743 delegates, Oyo State has 171 delegates followed by Osun with 130 delegates and Ekiti with 115 delegates.

Others are Ogun State with 114 delegates, Ondo 112 delegates and Lagos having the least with 101 delegates and a total number of 22 offices will be contested for during the congress.

The accreditation of delegates started two hours behind schedule.

Newsflash Nigeria gathered that the process of accreditation commenced around 11:45 am.

The accreditation of delegates for the congress had commenced with Oyo state.

Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, had explained that accreditation of delegates started two hours behind schedule to ensure a thorough process.

Makinde, who arrived at the venue around 12:13 pm, said the success or otherwise of the Congress would have an effect on the party at the national level.

Makinde, who claimed he had to show his driver’s license before he was allowed into the venue of the Congress, said only the best would be elected to assist the party at the national level.

He said, “I have to show them my driver’s license before I was allowed in. Accreditation is starting almost two hours behind schedule but better late and thorough than for them to rush and then they have challenges.

“The message is simple. This is a zonal congress and it has ramifications for our party at the national level. If it goes well in the South-West, be sure the future is bright for the PDP at the national level. This is just the election of zonal Officials, we will put our best and they will in turn assist us at the national level.”
