Speaking at the event at New Benin Health Center in Edo, the Lions club International, said the essence of marking the day was to draw attention to care of the eye.

World Sight Day is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of October and is a worldwide occasion intended to throw some light on blindness and vision impairment. It was established by the SightFirstCampaign of Lions Club International Foundation in the year 2000.

The theme for this year’s celebration of World Sight Day is “Love Your Eyes.” The theme stresses the need for awareness about our eye health and the need for taking care of our eyesight.

For this purpose, we must get our eyes tested and encourage those we know to go for it, as well.
One of the key focus areas of Lions club is “Sight”.

As Lions, it is our responsibility to focus global attention on vision impairment, including blindness.

This year under the leadership of our District Governor Lion Ano Anyanwu, District 404A1 of Lions Club international is carrying out various eye awareness campaigns to commemorate the World Sight Day on Thursday October 13th and the White cane day on Saturday October 15th.
